The '59 Beetle has the original full fabric sunroof, side flipout
turnsignals, original headlights, glass and original larger rear side
windows. I believe the engine was replaced in the late 60's, but I am not
sure. I have another original fabric sunroof and other parts that have been
kept in a heated garage.
Built in West Germany in 1959, I have owned it since 1970. It was on the road until 1982. It
has sat in my backyard, since ( I had always dreamed of restoring it). It
was a vehicle from upstate ny, and so there was rust on the pan and rear
quarters that I repaired as a teenager. I had to rebuild the floor heating
ducts and driver's side left floor area in 1972.
A member of the LIVC, who was rebuilding a '59, said there were
a lot of great parts on it that they do not reproduce. He had already
finished his build and so had no use for the parts.
I have the registration for the car.
Another member of the LIVC has separated the body from the pan and is salvaging the parts and drivetrain.
